Summary
After buying cat food—which took way longer than it should since Bucky insisted on Googling every single brand until he was satisfied with his choice—they went back to Bucky’s apartment and, well, pathetic may be a bit mean, but Sam can’t think of a better word to describe the barren state of Bucky’s ‘living’ corridors. Sam didn’t allow himself to be horrified in the moment, shoving down his worries in favor of focusing on Bucky’s proud look as he introduced his scraggly kitten. The brat promptly hissed at him and burrowed herself in Bucky’s jacket. Then Bucky had the audacity to laugh at him.
He chuckles a little at the thought. That is, before he remembers the three pieces of furniture and the lack of character in a place that’s supposed to be home. Then he finally lets himself feel that horrified feeling.
Or
Sam reflects on his past friendships, tries to pet Bucky’s stupid cat, uses middle school knowledge on love languages way too much, and has a very, very long week.

It takes too long for Bucky to recover the breath that caught in his lungs somewhere between that fateful no and when Steve stopped talking. Right. Steve stopped talking.
“Felt like what?” Bucky prompts. He wonders, vaguely, if Steve noticed the crack in his voice.
“Like I didn’t belong.”
I don’t belong.
“Like I was living a life that wasn’t meant for me.”
But I thought maybe...
“That wasn’t mine.”
I thought I belonged with you.

Bucky reflects on his final days with Steve, tries to text Sam back, uses Google way too much, and has a very, very long day.
