And oh God, this was the way they were going to go, mauled to death by three Demo-Dogs, and quite possibly with rabies. Nancy felt the grip of Robin across her middle, her panicked breaths heating up her neck. Half of her wanted to let go of the oar and hold her hand right there and then, but her stronger half wanted to fight. No, she would not go out like this. The Demo-Dogs snarled loudly, the spit flying out and spraying her in the face, she raised her oar to hit it across the face, to deflect a swipe.A whistle cut through the panicked air, loud and crisp among the noise of gasping breaths. The hair on her neck stood up on end, because this wasn't a monster. This was distinctly human. And suddenly having a human here with them felt more sinister than a monster. She stared frozen as the Demo-Dogs immediately whined and backed away, their mouths closing as they slipped back into the shadows of the bowing doorframe.

Mo Ran's best friend (and crush) Shi Mei is suddenly transferring from Sisheng University, and Mo Ran is devastated. But when Shi Mei tells him that the reason he's leaving is because his doctoral supervisor came onto him, Mo Ran's heartbreak turns to rage.
He's not even surprised. Former child prodigy Chu Wanning might seem as pure as driven snow, but no one is that monomaniacally ethical, that scrupulously altruistic, without hiding some big secret.
Then, with his parting words, Shi Mei ruefully says that he might be believed if Chu Wanning had been inappropriate with some other student too... and Mo Ran has a brilliant idea.

Those were the word his precious little star said before leaving for school. He felt like there was a hidden emotional depth to those last words that he wasn't sure of. His little dreamer said those words every time he left for school. There was always warmth and affection in it but... there was something different about it.
“I love you too. Take care now.” was his parental reply, every time.
His little star’s smile looks... Disappointed?
