Shane blinked, not sure if it was the interruption of the hanging silence or the directness of the question, which brought him back into the conversation.
“Sorry?” he asked, hoping he’d heard wrong.
“Do you think you love Maksim?” Reha elaborated. She brought her hand up to her glasses and pushed them slowly further up her nose while keeping constant eye contact.
“Yeah, of course”, the answer had left Shane’s lips without a second thought. It was the only socially accepted answer after all. Admitting to anything else would almost feel like treason. Not only to his four-year old son Maksim, but also to himself, as a father and to parenthood altogether. But Shane couldn’t help but feel the intense knot which started to form in his stomach. Maybe the answer he wanted to give wasn’t so clear cut after all.Or
