Summary
As Robert’s Rebellion came to a close, the new king, determined to end the dynasty that killed his love, sends his brother to murder the last children of Aerys Targaryen, the Mad King. The elder one, a boy of 8, is spirited away across the Narrow Sea. The youngest, a newborn babe, is captured. She is spared on one condition: she will grow up a ward in the North, where the Lord Stark, the King Robert’s best friend, and his betrothed’s brother, rules, and she will never bear “dragonspawn” to continue her line. Nearly 17 years pass. The boy, now a man, has yet to be caught. The girl has grown. A dragon amongst wolves, her only comfort are the bonds she has formed with Ned Stark’s children. However, comfort will not save her when the King decides it’s time for a visit North, nor will it protect the people from the fires brewing in the East, the glass candles burning in the South, and the icy winds howling in the far North. Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen are tempted to ignore their callings in favor of their forbidden, growing love, but perhaps it is the passion between ice and fire that will unite all against the greatest threats the Known World has seen in thousands of years. Perhaps not — love is the death of duty.

Summary
