Then someone muttered, “Dude, if you’re gonna cosplay Red Hood, at least carry the helmet. Coward.”
Jason blinked.
He looked down.
There was a red bat across his chest.

The Hollsworth’s weren’t from the Seam and they’d kept out of the mines, but they were a family of clothes makers and menders with a bad habit of procreation. With six kids (not to mention a seventh on the way), Dessy was the first to reach Reaping age and Katniss had to imagine she’d taken tesserae.
The girl tried very hard not to cry as she walked on stage and mostly did a poor job of it.
The boy was seventeen, which was slightly easier to watch, except that made him the same age as Katniss. She knew him. From classes, back when she attended those. Bren Fox. He was a Seam kid. A son of a miner who was the son of a miner who would one day have a kid who was the son of a miner.
Well, not anymore.
