Matricide in animals is rare, she knew that; she’d had countless conversations with the bugs in her balcony garden about it. Infanticide was different; the lion at the zoo had told her once before imprisonment that he had killed countless cubs. They never had a chance to defend themselves. Humans and animals weren’t that different, at the end of the day.

She’ll be gone after today. Off to university, and once she has a degree, she’ll never be coming back. Tabitha was taking over the mines, that’s what Agnes had said. She had no reason to stay. The only person with a degree who came back was his mother, and he didn’t even know why. It was hard to get a straight answer out of the woman; she never talked about the time before he was born.

Vivan Scarlet never got out of the Holler, raising her daughter until her untimely death. Agnes, growing up partially raised by her mother and partly by her Aunt, took the first opportunity out of Scarlet Hollow with a one-way ticket to college. Still, when her aunt dies, and Agnes returns to the town, she can no longer run away from the cage she grew up in, the mystery of her mother's death and the feelings she'd been ignoring since she'd left.

I broke down El'vhen into component parts and replaced the elided apostrophes. This is still fan fic, because despite having a linguistics minor, I could be very wrong. But if I'm not too far off, it should give us the tools to make new words.
It's mostly all translated from canon sources, Katiebour's Cypher, and the wiki.

Summary

Edamura said he wouldn't go back to the con life, but what harm would it do to help out such a kind woman and her adoptive parents? But there's a nagging feeling in the back of his head that won't go away the more he learns about her and her troubling past.
