    "Guilt creeps up your spine and you have to remind yourself that he is the one who stole your food, not the other way around. Anybody would consider it your rightful place to hunt him down. Still, there is something strange about looking into his brown eyes and shooting him, when he isn’t trying to defend himself or attack you in return.
    “I’ve got some rubbing alcohol for that,“ you say, hesitantly nodding in the direction of his wounded stomach. “You can wait it out in my cabin.“ The corners of his mouth twitch slightly, like you amuse him."

    When having to make the decision between saving and killing a stranger, you choose to save him. Your solitary life as you know it is over, and you struggle to let the stranger close to you. His unmatched patience and persistent kindness result in a bond you didn't think possible before meeting him.

    After leaving the Fireflies, you ended up in the settlement of Jackson with Tommy, unwilling to part with the only friend you had left. You were even able to carve somewhat of a life out for yourself after a few years.

    Until Tommy's older brother shows up. You think Joel Miller is gruff and rude, and you're pretty sure he doesn't have a fond opinion of you either. That doesn't stop the attraction you feel for each other, but he's gone in a day. You settle back into a routine, thinking you'll never see him again.

    Then Joel returns a few months later, and screws up everything about the comfortable life you had established in Jackson.
