“This is our time,” Nigel whispered, “Jack.”
Alex’s heart leapt to pound in his ears, stumbling from a hard rhythm to an unsteady gallop. He exhaled shakily, shifting away from the intensity of Nigel's gaze, but his speeding heart wouldn’t calm. Nigel’s eyes still spiraled into his, deep pools of night-time glaciers.
“We’ve been brought together for a reason,” Nigel said softly, voice laced with intoxicating conviction as he looked reverently back at the card. “And it’s written here.”
His gaze bore into Alex, flaying him alive.
“For eternity.”
