"For example!" Caine dropped Pomni's hand and raised his cane as if to emphasize his next point. "Did you know that humans do this strange thing where they press their mouths together and try to eat them? They call it 'kissing,' and it's a form of 'affection.'"
Pomni sputtered. "W-Well, um, they're not...eating each other's mouth..."
"Really?" Caine tilted his head a little. "That's what it looks like to me."

In other words, Caine and Pomni aren't quite sure how to have any physical part of their relationship, given Caine's...anatomy.
