You two were once happy. You'd shot gun beer together, take long trips in your truck and smoke so late that you still felt the effects of it at your shift the next day. Everything was easier before you grew up.
Something changed. Not dramatically or loudly. Just slowly, quietly and over time. The same way smells slowly faded. You were different, but so was he. You two no longer wanted the same things, no longer hung out in the same crowd.
And even though you were in love with him, you had to leave him. Had to leave it all behind and take the one piece of him with you. The part that he wouldn't know about. He was on a destructive path anyways, you were in the right to choose you and your child.

Summary
Kim Mayfield has a problem. A very specific one in the form of messy dark hair, warm hazel eyes and a corny sailor uniform. She was used to Steve Harrington, well, used to staring at him from afar and fantasizing about him. Sometimes she’d write about him in her diary; and if she sent him the occasional anonymous love letter, then that was between her and no one else. It was just a little crush, something that she could handle as long as she kept her distance from him.
So she thought.
Her new position at the ice cream parlor just makes everything more difficult, her crush more intense, and her inability to speak even harder. Not only that, but she’s fairly certain that Steve can’t stand her. Even if it’s just by association, something that she had no part of.
But the summer days are long, and what begins as a slow friendship leaves her hopeful that it will grow into something more. Only for it to be something that she wasn’t planning on for quite some time. Now they both have to deal with the repercussions.
