Originally, I planned to edit the old post, but I realized I wanted to bring the story back to life in a new way that better reflects who I am now while still honoring where it all began.

“I can fight. I’m a more than proficient swordsman,” he argues as the ship draws abreast, and he sees a line of pirates standing on its deck, leering across the railing. They’re all shapes and sizes, a motley collection of weapons in their hands. Mihawk feels his heart race, his skin prickle, his blood sing at the promise of an impending battle.
Then, his eyes catch those of a man, or rather, a boy, standing on the figurehead—tall, red-haired, with a crooked smile and a silly straw hat sitting jauntily on his head.
