Summary
A hundred-year sleep and a complete loss of memory aren’t enough to keep Link from finishing the job he’d left undone. The Calamity is sealed. The worst is over. They’ve even managed to come out of this ordeal without grievous injury, Link and the princess both—even Ganondorf, whose survival should have been impossible.
They’re here now, though, and safe. But as Link very quickly comes to understand, safe doesn’t necessarily mean whole.
His head’s a jumbled up mess these days, but he’s determined to push through it all the same, to figure out this whole After situation. It’s just, getting swept up in Ganon’s very intense presence isn’t really conducive to him thinking straight…
Because the thing is, no matter how hard Link had laughed earlier, no matter how relieved he is that this whole mess is finally over, he still hasn’t shaken that itch in the back of his mind. The hole in his memories is still there, demanding his attention as much as it ever has. The hurry voice isn’t gone. It’s only changed, urging him now to remember instead.

Summary
“Your lungs have collapsed. You can barely breathe on your own. Aang’s been keeping you alive with airbending.”
Oh. That explains a lot. Zuko can’t do anything but choke in response.
Thankfully, the Water Tribe boy isn’t looking for a response. “Not even four hours ago, Katara was the only thing keeping you from bleeding out on the pier. You’re probably just minutes away from being back where you were then.” He accentuates his point by gently applying more pressure to Zuko’s injury. Fucking ow. “You need them. If you want to stay alive, you don’t try anything. Okay?”
Shit.
. . .
When his ship explodes, Zuko isn't so lucky to get away unscathed. No amount of firebending can protect him from the solid steel the explosion launches everywhere. His ship is lodged in his chest, and he can't breathe. He must rely on the Avatar to do it for him.

Summary
Arthur has stood on clifftops, staring off the edge of the world and wondering how long it would take him to hit the ground. One more step, out into emptiness where nothing matters anymore, but he’s always too weak to take it, always hesitating.
Clinging to a life that doesn’t cling back.
He’s waded into riverbanks, the current strong and vicious, tugging at his clothes and trying to draw him in. Thought about how easy it would be to go limp and let the water take him. Let the river close over his head, blackness all around— weightless and boneless and nothing is his fault anymore.
Thought about how easy it would be, nothing to do but breathe in water, close his eyes, and drift away. This isn’t anything like that.
Then Arthur glances up, and sees him coming over the ridge. It’s too far, really, and he’s wearing a bandana over the bottom half of his face, but Arthur would know those eyes anywhere. Across canyons, from miles away. In the dead of night, the sky black and starless, it doesn’t matter; Arthur can still feel him watching.
