She’d smelled him the first time they met, had actually done a double take when she’d realized that the scent that smelled so good to her—all sweet salt and pine under the other scents of sword oil, sweat, and metal—was the rude swordsman. The 6 foot, broad as a tank, muscled, stoic-faced swordsman and not the lanky red-vested young man in a straw hat.

The words land between them, clean and unadorned.
Nami stills.
As if she couldn’t tell, the way his scent fills the air, the way her own instincts sharpen in response, old and deep and not something she ever let's run the show.
“I figured,” she says after a beat. Not only had she smelled it, but she’d been aware of the way his control has tightened, the way he’s kept his distance just enough to keep it from becoming a problem.
He’s not keeping his distance now. Her head is heady with it.
She stays still. Refuses to move. Keeps her hands clasped and her feet anchored and her expression unchanged.
Zoro nods once.
“And?” she prompts, because he didn’t bring her out here just to state the obvious.
He turns then, fully facing her.
“I want you,” he says. -
