    Again and again and again. Stede tries to get closer, and each time Ed runs. Stede has given up on the physical affection, even though Ed still seems to lean close and put a hand on Stede's shoulder often. Stede's efforts to return that affection only seems to make Ed uncomfortable, and so he sits and smiles and keeps his body wound tight so he won't reach out, even if he wants to.

    But that doesn't keep Ed from running off. Maybe it's a bit less, but Stede still sees those shifts. He doesn't know how to keep from making Ed feel like he needs to run away.

    So he holds himself stiffly, thinks about his words carefully, and hopes Ed will stay.

    Ed is the anti-hero of Cityburg, the vigilante Blackbeard who commands tendrils of shadow that he uses to crush any criminal who dares to cross him. The shadows inside of him have always loved Stede, acting of their own accord to make the man happy, but lately it's almost as if they're... listening to him. It's a little silly, to think that Stede might have as much control over Ed's powers as Ed himself, but still, he has to try.
