Summary
“Well, I heard in town that you were looking for some help digging a well. And I thought I might provide my services.”
Penelope stared at him. “Now why on God’s green earth would you want to do that?” she asked, more bluntly than was perhaps proper for a young lady. “We can’t pay you.” Their father had left them with almost nothing, save this land and the house they were standing on. It was a pretty nice house - better than some of the others in the area - but life was hard.
He shook his head and turned his hat over in his hands. “No, I didn’t expect you could. I hoped you might instead pay me in kind.”
Penelope’s cheeks flushed red and she looked down, her hands smoothing the faded yellow cotton of her day dress. She didn’t suppose he meant what it sounded like he meant, being a gentleman and all, but the idea of Colin Bridgerton taking that sort of payment from her made her cheeks hot.

Summary
Colin Bridgerton had it all: a beautiful wife, four beautiful children, and a fulfilling career.
Saying he’s content is an understatement; he loves this life.
That is until he’s yanked from this reality and finds himself in the hospital, awakening from a coma.
It turns out he is not married and never has been. Penelope’s just his friend, his children don’t exist, and his perfect job is merely a pipe dream.
On a journey of rehabilitation, self-discovery, and grief, Colin must come to terms with the life he has and build it into the one that he dreamed of.
…trying to convince the girl he’s known as his wife of their wonderful life together shouldn’t be too tricky, right?

Summary
When Colin Bridgerton catches Penelope Featherington staring rather wantonly when his brother emerges drenched and underdressed from the Serpentine, he finds himself unusually bothered by the situation. Disappointed in his brother's lack of propriety, Colin sets out to keep Penelope away from Anthony so that her mind does not wander to such unbidden places - and if that means he gets to spend more time with her enjoying their friendship, he won't argue. But something is still wrong. He can feel it, and Colin will do what it takes to get Penelope's eyes back on him.

Summary
“Perhaps you should take a seat,” said Violet.
Colin wouldn't remember the details of what his mother told him next. He would remember her hand warm on his knee, her eyes wide with concern, her voice gentle as velvet. All of it in stark contrast to the devastating news she shared.
Penelope was ruined.

Summary
“Colin!” Penelope shouts, her face lighting up with a smile that had to be a million or two watts, rivaling the brightness of the sun.
“Pen,” he says, feeling some kind of weight drop from his shoulders, replaced by her when she jumps on him. Her arms wind around his neck and instinctively, he catches her, one hand on the back of her thigh and the other pressed against her lower back.
“Fuck, I missed you,” she breathes.
It’s exactly the homecoming he’d wished for. His heart takes off in his chest. She smells like vanilla and lavender, and her whole body is warm and wrapped around him, and he wonders if maybe they could stay like this for the rest of their lives, because God, he’s missed her, too.
With his face buried in her neck, Colin murmurs, “Yeah, me, too.” Neither of them really let go, and he doesn’t want to read into it that much because—he doesn’t even know. Because he’s scared, maybe. Probably. Because he doesn't understand it and doesn’t want to. Because for all his exploration of caves and canyons, he isn’t sure he’s ready for whatever he’d find the second he reads the text of their friendship and discovers something hidden between the lines.
