Fighting monsters at night in a different dimension can be terrifying, having to do that and balance school is stressful. But what’s more stressful and terrifying than that is having to do both of those things while trying to discover why you’re able to move things with your mind. Also having to hide it from the group who helps you stay alive every night because you don’t want to add more problems to their plate. Instead of telling them, you get help from a kid who caused this mess in the first place, your partner that you were forced to partner up with in English, lucky me…

Summary
Mike’s had a lifetime of experience pretending to be chill.
From a young age he’s learned that the easiest way to get by in life is by acting completely unaffected by everything. When you grow up in a small, judgmental town with the parents Mike has, it kinda comes with the territory.
So far it’s managed to work pretty well for him; after all, he’s made it through three years of high school with his body and his dignity mostly intact, and he’s got some pretty sick battle scars to prove it.
All of that seems to go out the window whenever it comes to Will.
So Mike does what he does best and tries to keep Will at an arm’s length, to keep him close but not that close, so that Will won’t be able to see through his poorly concealed thoughts and get scared off.
This time it’s different, though.
Things have changed, somehow, for some reason.
Or
Mike has never been a jealous person. In fact, he prides himself on not being easy to read—that is, until Will comes out to him, and suddenly, the thought of him hanging out with other people forces Mike to confront the complicated feelings that he’s been running from before he loses Will for good.

He wasn’t the heart. He didn’t hold The Party together.
If anything, Will was the heart. He holds The Party together.
Mike was just some gangly nerd.
Vecna’s gaze is unrelenting and it's like he can hear Mike’s negative, insecure thoughts, “You can help me make Hawkins better. You can make him love you back. You can have anything you want.” He says, his words convincing.
He wants to be useful for once.
He wants Will to want him.

Will raised an eyebrow at his friend's antics, then dropped his eyes to where he knew Dustin had reached a hand out towards him.
“This summer, we stick together. You and me, Byers.”
Will grinned, taking Dustin’s hand and shaking it. “You and me, Henderson.”
A rewrite of S3:
The night Dustin gets back from Camp Knowhere, he brings the Party up to the highest point in Hawkins to set up Cerebro. He thought that his friends would be excited to have him back-- even if it wasn't the most entertaining to sit on a hill and talk into a radio with no response, he thought they would at least wait for him before going home. He thought it was going to be the best summer ever.
Instead, he finds himself and the one friend that didn't leave him, Will Byers, intercepting a weird Russian transmission.
And, well... if he couldn't have the best summer ever, at least he and Will would have an eventful one.
