Summary
“Do you think me incapable of love?”
Those words, spoken from the voice of conviction and revolution itself, could not have shocked Combeferre more at that moment. “Of course not,” he replies immediately. “But I must admit, I did not expect such a question to be coming from you.”
(In which Courfeyrac teases, Enjolras gives Combeferre an explanation, and there are things that cannot be.)

Summary
So quick bright things come to confusion.
-
Enjolras was watching him write, sharp cheekbone pillowed on open hand and his eyes half-shut. Aware of his regard, aware too that it meant he had something to say but wasn’t yet ready to say it, Combeferre finished his letter without looking up, blotted his most recent line with sand, shook it loose, and folded up the paper.

Summary
Enjolras has heard all the stories about bonded pairs, but he's always dismissed them as propaganda. Half the work is already done for the oppressive system when they can package your commodification as a fairytale, make you kiss your chains.
