He knew he was acting crazy. He could feel it in the way he stretched his smile too wide, too manic. He could see it in the way Pomni’s eyes widened in fear ever so slightly, but her brows furrowed in concern. She wasn’t afraid of him, at least, it didn’t look like that. Pomni had a somewhat of a neutral expression on her face, but it also looked like she was calculating. Planning her next move. If there was something Jax knew about her, it was that once she had her mind set on something, she would not let it go.
And the worst part? It wasn’t until he turned around, his back facing Pomni, that he realized what he had just done. He did something he could never go back to. He’s officially burned the last bridge that could have ever led to a friendship. There was no going back, no matter how much he wanted to. The voice in him screamed, begging Jax to take everything back, to apologize and pretend that this was just a silly little prank. It took everything in him to not listen.

Even the rest of the cast begins to take notice as their ringmaster begins to change his tune, not that it was very well hidden.
As reality bends and emotions slip through the cracks of programming, Caine must confront something he never planned for — dependence, vulnerability… and the possibility that the one constant in his chaotic world has been watching him with something like affection all along.
