Now Francesa finds herself unable to stay away and trying very hard not to think about why telling Michaela she and John are dating feels like it would ruin everything. Surely keeping that little detail about her relationship status cannot be seen as lying if Michaela never asked. Right?

The way her chin curves and slopes down into her neck, her collarbone peaking out from her dress and the way her skin practically glows in this light.
Francesca grips the seat beneath her, wondering if this is what true friendship is meant to feel like. If it’s normal to be so taken by a friend.

"I am so sorry," a voice yelps from behind her. "I did not—I mean—"
"Perhaps you should—" Michaela starts to admonish her attacker, whirling around to face them, but the words sputter and die in her throat before she can finish.
Michaela must admit she recognizes most of the women here. Many of them, intimately. She has already lost count of the married women who have flushed and avoided her eyeline, and she has not even been here ten minutes.
But Michaela knows she has never met this woman. She is positive, because she would have remembered meeting an angel.
