Finally she set the eraser down and in the time she looked away to do so and back at the taller woman there was the most smug expression on her face that startled Reid.
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
“So, lil’ ol’ me can hold yer attention, aye?”
“I never said that.”
“Oh but ye did.” Mary sing songed as she drew in closer, her hands resting on Ashleigh’s shoulder. They were very close now and Ashleigh could hardly breath. “If ye give me a chance… I bet I could hold it for a bit longer.”

The look Reid gave her was neutral but Mary worked with her long enough to know the disappointment in those eyes. Her own clenching shut, “Please—”
“Please?” Ashleigh mimicked cooly, rolling the evidence between her fingertips.
“Don’t tell Newton, please Ash.” Mary pleaded, counting her blessings that it was just Ashleigh and not anyone else. Sure she’s downright mortified getting caught but a part of her was sure Ash understood, prayed she did.

“Yer not fallen asleep on me are ye?” Mary leaned over into Ash’s view, who blinked at her in return.
“No, my apologies, what were you saying?”
Dr. Somers simply smiled, always quick to forgive, quick to trust. A pang of anxiety bloomed in her chest and she averted her gaze back to the water. Mary got closer, moving a pair of beer bottles out of the way, close enough now she could lay her head on Reid’s shoulder. An act that almost made her tense up but realizing that they were both alone she instantly relaxed, reciprocating with a loose arm around Somer’s shoulder.
“I asked how ye felt about Olympus, yer time here, I dinnae ken if I ever asked you before.” Mary repeats.
