“Do you see him?” Armand asks.
“See what?” Molloy says, after a pause.
“The boy in the corner,” says Armand, instead of the boy in the corner who looks like my younger self.

Summary
Hey gang, Daniel pictured himself saying upon returning to Auvergne. We went on honeymoon to Iceland and came back married, which sounds backwards, but hear me out—it’s kinky, it’s a kink thing, we’re doing kink. It’s also like a game of gay chicken? Except involving a total lack of prenuptial agreements and the transferral of millions of dollars of property, investments, and liquid cash. Imagine marriage before feminism, but make it gay and kinky. Like that, that’s what we’re doing. For sex reasons. Because it gets us off like crazy, you would not believe how hard it’s getting us off. Well, you will believe soon enough, actually, from the way we are about to behave in public. Sorry not sorry.
***
In which Daniel takes his turn holding the reins, Armand gets to rest while processing his trauma with as much kink as possible, almost no one in the coven bats an eye at their antics, and love unlocks eternity.

Summary
”What’s the point of painting someone like this?”
“What do you mean, beloved?”
”She looks like she’s chewing a wasp.”
“And? What is wrong with that?”
“It’s unflattering. Unrefined. You’d wonder why he didn’t tell her to, you know, perk up a bit.”
Armand stifles a laugh with his hand. Daniel glances over at him, and can’t help softly smiling. Preening. He likes that it amuses Armand when he behaves like a philistine.
”I still fail to see the problem. There is something to be said for preserving someone in the imperfect stages.”
Armand can look so tender when he smiles, sometimes. Butter really wouldn’t melt, when he gives Daniel that shy look from under his eyelashes, like they both don’t know what he’s thinking.

Summary
Armand's feelings upon dreams have always been this: what story is the hidden part of you shouting into your ear? Fears and desires often make themselves known most freely when cloaked in some lurid disguise. This was the old premise of the Théâtre des Vampires: we, the monsters lurking in the shadows of your minds, show you to yourselves.
If Daniel is the monster of his heart, what story is he trying to tell himself?
As Louis' interview unfolds, Armand finds himself dreaming of past disaster, of imagined catastrophe and of a love affair he cannot remember —and finds himself asking questions he may not want answered.
