Seungmin squinted down at the instruction booklet again, trying to work out whether the tiny faceless person in the diagram was warning him about the shelf orientation or mourning beside a coffin. At that exact moment, Minho returned, the soft clink of the mugs announcing his arrival. He set the coffee on a nearby windowsill, safely away from the danger zone of loose screws, and immediately dropped to his knees on the carpet beside Seungmin.

It starts like this: a look exchanged in a bar he went to alone. Trying to forget something, trying to remember something else. A wry smile, a hand on the small of his back.
“Can I buy you a drink?”
When has Jisung ever said no to that?
A quick drive back to campus–oh, he’s a student here, too. Maybe they have classes together. Maybe that’s why he looked familiar. Or maybe everyone looks familiar after a couple cocktails.
His roommate isn’t home. They can be loud and they are.
“This stays between us, okay? I’m just…experimenting.”
Jisung has been someone’s secret before. He doesn’t know if it’s good or bad this time, but it’s something. And this guy isn’t being cruel. He knows cruel and he knows kind and the smile he’s given after he agrees to secrecy is not bad.
Maybe that’s the booze talking, but he’d much rather the booze control the conversation than for it to be left up to him. Pretty boys have a way of making Jisung stupid.

Seungmin flinches. The tightness in his throat coming back full force, his stomach twisting into anxious knots.
He doesn't understand why Minho is so harsh but it's clear he has a special extra hatred for Seungmin.

When Seungmin is accepted into Asia’s top university on a scholarship, he decides to take the opportunity to move into the dorms and out of his dad's house.
He doesn’t plan on ever going back home, doesn’t expect to nearly die when he does. And he definitely doesn’t expect Lee Minho to be the one to find him on the brink of death in an alley way on New Year’s Day.

Summary
“We’ll have a good summer, you and I,” Seungmin grins, and he means it more than he’s ever meant anything. They’re going to have a good summer and Hyunjin is going to be happier by the end of it.
Hyunjin lowers his head onto Seungmin’s shoulder, settling in comfortably, like that spot was made specifically for him. Maybe it was.
“I’m glad I met you,” Hyunjin mumbles, more to himself than to Seungmin, but Seungmin hears it nonetheless.

Seungmin has grown to appreciate his quiet life in his quiet, beachside hometown. Sure, it’s lonely and boring and a permanent reminder of what he’s lost, but it’s all he has. That is until a very hot, freshly single Hyunjin visits for the summer and shows Seungmin what he’s been missing.

He hasn’t spoken to Minho in a long time.
Or: in 2002, four years after Minho moved to college, four years after they stopped speaking, seven years after Jisung fell for him, twelve years since the day they met, Jisung and Minho fall in love again.
