Summary
Dunk struggles enough with his predicament on his own. When his accidental travelling companion turns out not to be who they said they are it gets worse.
—
Your face twists. “Bastard.”
“Aye!” And there he loses hold of himself. You are ungrateful. Half-naked, saved by him, and ungrateful, speaking to him as if he were some dog that had fouled your shoe. The fever seems to have passed its worst work, but you are still witless. Weak too. Your chest heaves unevenly and your thighs tremble beneath you as if anger alone is keeping you upright. Duncan knows trembling thighs on a woman from other times, and the thought sickens him with its own untimeliness. After it comes one of Ser Arlan’s old lessons on what a man does with insolent little things such as yourself. Before the hand he imagines can fall and meet flesh bent over the knee, his voice raises instead, full-force, and he’s spitting onto his own face. “That bastard hauled your boots off, found you walking on a foot black as rot, cooled your skin, changed your shirt, and sat by whilst you sweated half the fever out. You may curse me now only because of that!”Bookmarked by Strelitzia02

Summary
Daeron's head turned with the force of the blow, slowly, and he brought one hand up to cup his jaw and worked it carefully. Then he looked back at you, his eyes very wide, and there was something in them - not hurt, exactly, or not only hurt, but something that might be, absurdly, the beginning of a kind of relief. As though being slapped by you was better than the alternative of not being slapped by you, of not having found you at all.
"I deserved that, I suppose," he groaned.
"You suppose," you retorted, voice sharp with malice.
"I think - yes, I think unambiguously yes, on reflection."

Bookmarker's Notes
That one video of that parrot that sounds like it yelling in lowercase. Yeah. Living their lives and shouldering their grief quietly and importantly (!) separately (!). Dressing him down in public. "You did," you said, and your voice was steady and it was cold …. "You are telling me, right now, that my feelings about what you have done are disproportionate,” get his ass. The ending where she gets to have another day to herself but leaving the door a little cracked. 🍐

"please please please someone write a fanfic where reader is daeron's cousin (baelor's daughter) and his wife/fiancée, and after her father's death, she harbors resentment towards her uncle's family, just like valarr does. idk... so much angst " (- savedenji on tumblr)Series

Bookmarker's Notes
Frustratingly reasonable Daeron and his emotionally wrecked cousin wife have a frighteningly realistic dialogue about the mechanics of guilt and grief. Reading this kind of felt like chewing glass but like. In a good way. Like I scooped up some smashed mosaic tiles and started going to town. I like that he’s there but it’s not really about him as much as it’s about her feelings. Went in for daeron and I am now fully invested in Unamed Baelor Daughter. ♥️

Read in November and I’m still thinking about it in January. Spiraling around each other and enjoying hurting and being hurt. They’re terrible and I love them.
