Summary
Heat and vibration shook through him, his body a taut, quivering wire. He was so close now he could taste it, the sharpest edge of pleasure, Buck's imagined voice goading him toward it, right there right there right—
The sharp sound of metal on metal rang out in the room—a key fumbling in the front door.
Eddie pulled his sweats up so fast he nearly toppled off of the couch. He grabbed for the lube, hid it between the cushions, shot a hand out to grab his phone—and sent it flying across the room.
Oh god. Oh fuck.
The door opened and Eddie pulled a pillow over his lap—bit down on his lip. Hard.
He could feel his heartbeat up in his throat, on the back of his tongue. The vibrator was still buzzing inside of him.
“Hey, Eddie.” Buck called out, bright and cheerful as he walked around to the other side of the couch, sitting down next to Eddie, and oh god— “Whatcha watching?”

Summary
The room spun for a beat before settling into dim shapes: the low gray light of early morning bleeding in through the blinds, the familiar slant of their bedroom ceiling—but none of that registered. What hit him first was the body against his.
His cheek was pressed against the top of a spine, rising and falling against his face with heaving breaths. His arm was wrapped around a torso that was moving with his own. His thigh was wedged up against hips that had just pushed back into him.
And that sound—that breath, that low, involuntary sound—it hadn’t come from him.
It had come from—
“Eddie,” Buck whispered. Voice raw, stuck halfway in his throat. He wasn’t even sure he’d meant to say it out loud.
“It’s okay,” Eddie spit, like it had come out instinctively—because Buck sounded scared, or maybe because Eddie was, too.
Eddie huffed, voice rough. “Keep going.”
Buck let out a shocked, stuttered, “Huh?”

Summary
Olive is so small as she shifts against his chest, her fingers finding the fabric of his shirt, clutching as tight as her tiny fist will allow.
Eddie stills, watching in quiet awe, memorizing every detail—the delicate slope of her nose, the curve of her barely-there smile, the way her lashes brush against her cheeks. He traces her features with his eyes, like if he studies them long enough, they’ll etch themselves into his memory forever.
"I’m here," he whispers, shifting his hold just enough to press a kiss to her impossibly soft temple. She exhales a tiny, contented sigh, her fingers loosening their grip. "I’m not going anywhere."
The words catch against the lump in his throat.
He wants to believe them. He needs to believe them.
But the doubt lingers, curling in the back of his mind like an old wound that never quite healed.
Because he said the same thing once before.
And then he left.
or
Olive Isabel Diaz is born, Eddie grapples with his fear of abandonment and discovers that, maybe, it’s finally okay to stay.

Summary
“The name. Firehose.” Eddie’s eyes flicked down to the orange in his hands as he started on the next slice. “You said it had more to do with something else.”
“Oh! Right—well…” Buck laughed, a little awkward, rubbing the back of his neck and wringing his hands like he was debating whether or not he should answer. “I guess my question would be… do you know what hyperspermia is?”
Eddie froze mid-chew, then bit down—hard—on a slice of orange. The juice hit the back of his throat and sent him into a coughing fit.
Or; Eddie finds out Buck has hyperspermia and is totally normal and sane about it.

Eddie flipped the postcard one last time, reading over the words he’d inked into the paper. His thumb brushed along the corner as he slipped the card into the slot.
Hey Buck,
I’m drunk in Texas and this is still the only address I know by heart. I miss you.
Yours,
E.D.

Summary
It’s bright and warm and summery. His husband is laughing, soft and open and unburdened. There’s a perfect new baby in his arms and a perfect kid making jokes on the other side of the table and the zing of oranges in the air.
And it’s so, so good that it’s hard to imagine that anything isn’t.
This, of course, is an illusion that nobody is more proficient in shattering than Philip and Margaret Buckley.

Summary
“Hey, did you do something new with your loft?” Eddie asked before Buck could share his movie pick for the night, squinting at what little he could see in the background of the screen. “It looks different but very familiar at the same time.”
Buck let out a nervous chuckle and tried to angle the tablet to show nothing more than just his now flushed face. “You know me, stress baking and home renovation shows are my main vices when I’m feeling down.”
Juggling a tablet and a plate of cookies in his shaking hands was no easy task and now that he knew that something was off, Eddie was like a dog with a bone. “Did you move?” Buck nearly dropped his tablet in his haste to turn it off but it was already too late for any kind of damage control. “Wait. Is that my house?”

Summary
“It could be worse,” Buck says.
Eddie is pacing the length of the hotel room. Buck’s hotel room. The one that they shared last night, because they got married. Drunk married. In Vegas. By fucking Elvis. Jesus fucking Christ. If Eddie wasn’t so hungover he’d worry that the splitting in his head was a brain aneurysm.
“How, Buck? How could it possibly be worse?”
“We could have married strangers?”
(Or, Eddie and Buck get married, move in together, and then fall in love. In that order. Kind of.)

Summary
Sometimes it still baffles Buck how moments like these are exactly as they’ve always been. They could have been sitting here laughing like this six months, or a year, or even five years ago, and it would have looked exactly the same. The way they fit together, like one soul in two bodies, feels like something of a miracle.
And Buck knows a little something about miracles, because one day - a little less than a year ago - Eddie had taken Buck’s hands in his and said I love you. Nothing has ever felt closer to magic than that.

Summary
For a sickening, devastating second, Eddie thinks Buck is going to turn his back on him and rush to Tommy.
But then Buck’s expression crumples into something so sad that Eddie would do just about anything to get rid of it - to change it into the sunshine smile he’s so accustomed to. And then Buck is hurrying towards him, arms outstretched so he can take Eddie’s bruised and bleeding hand into his own.
“What the hell happened?” Buck asks, frantic. “Are you okay?”
Tommy scoffs. “He punched me,” he yells, straining against Chim and Ravi’s hold.

Summary
“Buck!” Hen calls out, far too enthusiastically for this to be a good idea. “I dare you to…kiss the prettiest person in the room!”
Eddie immediately turns to look at Buck - at the way a delicate smile tugs at the corners of his lips, and his cheeks flush so pink that they match his birthmark. It makes Eddie want to throw up. Because Buck is beautiful, and sweet, and good, and Eddie doesn’t want to watch this happen. He doesn’t want to watch Buck lean over and kiss Tommy, because he thinks it might just rip his heart out.
But then - unbelievably, impossibly - Buck turns towards Eddie.

Summary
And the thing is, Buck is so good at being alone; he’s been doing it almost his whole life. But when he’s reminded of the way love tastes, drizzled like honey on your tongue - the way it feels, like the warm glow of sunlight on your skin. That is when he truly aches. Not the breaking, because he’s done that a thousand times over. It’s the knowing that really does him in.
The having, for just a little while, before it’s snatched away so quickly he can still feel the burn on his fingertips from trying to hold on.

It takes Buck longer than it should to notice. Which - okay, sure, he’s oblivious about certain things even on the best of days, and he got struck by lightning less than a month ago, so maybe he should give himself a break. But still, it feels like something he should have noticed, so he ends up feeling pretty stupid for not noticing.

“Wait, you need a sitter?” Chimney says. Eddie nods. “Maddie’s brother got back in town a few nights ago, he’s looking for work.”
Eddie frowns. He doesn’t know much about this mysterious brother of Maddie’s – doesn’t even really know much about Maddie, either, aside from being Chimney’s girlfriend – but he’s pretty sure every time he’s been brought up in conversation it’s not been particularly inspiring. “Is this the brother who flunked out of college because he spent all his tuition on a motorcycle?”
Chimney colours a little. “Um. No?”
