Summary
It starts, as many things do, slowly. He quietly stops seeing Galina. He lies about taking his medication. The medication hasn’t been helping anyway. Then it’s Shane noticing he isn’t doing well, and begging Ilya to talk to him. There is nothing to say.
Objectively, everything is fine. His life is amazing. He’s married to the love of his life, they play for the same hockey team, they don’t have to hide their love anymore. They have a dog and a place that is home. He has a family with Shane and his parents. He has friends with the centaurs and Svetlana. On paper, his life is amazing.
The thought definitively doesn’t help the guilt he feels when he holds the handful of painkillers.
Or: Ilya commits suicide. But when he dies, he finds himself as a ghost and is forced to watch Shane grapple with his death.

"Mate, you just need to kiss someone, seriously," Ant said, annoyed frown twitching at his lips. "Fuck it, I'd even volunteer myself."
"Yeah?" Spider said, with a laugh, the corners of his eyes crinkling up as he turned his face to the side to finally look at Ant.
"Fuckin' oath," Ant responded, meeting Spider's eyes. A strange feeling washed over him, something like an odd sense of sincerity to what was very clearly a joke between friends. It made him uncomfortable, and he shifted in his position on the ledge, toeing Spider's knee and shifting his gaze away from him. "Stop hogging the joint, will ya?"

Summary
Game days look different now that Ilya’s retired.
What was once mornings spent with anticipation and competitive hunger gnawing at his stomach- getting ready in tandem with Shane before heading to the arena, hyping their team together before blazing out onto the ice- is now replaced with a slower, gentler start. Ilya thought at first that he would miss it, the chaotic energy that constantly pushed him toward victory and greatness, and in some ways he does.
