So, if you look up Farkas's skill stats, they might surprise you...
On one of my Skyrim play-throughs, I did the thing where you drop a piece of armor near Farkas and then tell him he can have it when he asks, and that makes him available as a follower... so I took Farkas with me all over Skyrim even though I'd only started the Companion's quest line.
That prompted me to look some things up and come up with a few head-cannons...
So here’s the story that I tried to make tie everything in my head together...“Farkas is intrigued when he meets a small imperial archer and is unexpectedly caught up in her adventures. As he learns more about her he soon decides he’ll do everything he can to protect her... and that promise takes him places he never imagined he’d go... and changes the course of everything...”
(I feel like the series of tags above is a better summary than this...)
(This is a fanfiction, Bethesda owns the setting and most of the characters.)

Summary
Apparently this was all the jostling that the man needed to wake back up. He gnashed his teeth, growling, “Who are you? Where’s Ava!”
Grace tried to pull backwards but the man grabbed his shirt, “Stratt? She’s not here!”
The man stilled somewhat, “What?” He asked.
Grace regained his balance, “Eva Stratt. It’s her mission, right? She’s not here. I’m Ryland Grace, I’m here to help you.”

Just before he dies to the Blood Ocean, Simon appears in the Hail Mary's airlock while Grace is holding his crew's funeral. The crew is back at the correct headcount with a scientist, an engineer, and a pilot, but none of them were originally meant to be on this ship, and Grace still hasn't gotten around to telling anyone it's a one-way trip for the humans. Grace counts his victories in unraveled scientific mysteries, while Simon counts his in getting Grace to swear.

“COI,” Simon growled, bringing one knee up and shifting his weight, struggling to remember how to stand. The ground bucked beneath him, sending him onto all fours, the impact jarring every nerve. “Not done feeding me to it, keep chewing and spitting.”
He gagged on his next words, choking back a sob. “'M’not a person, am I? Just a machine to you. Patch me up, send me in again..." Every muscle seized in a violent, cramping tremor. His breath shook. Cold sank into his bones while his skin seared hot.
“I don’t know who this COI is,” Grace said evenly. A cough. A few deep, wheezing breaths. “Wow, you really did a number on me.”
“Rocky explain,” the alien said firmly, tapping Grace’s knee not too gently before turning back to Simon. “You in danger. You hurt. We hear distress call through wormhole. We help.”

After the taumoeba incident, Grace went looking for Rocky. What if he saw something while searching that wasn't the Blip-A?
He ignores it. At least for now. It's not Rocky, and so it's not important. Not yet.
But once they’re both safe (for now), curiosity wins. And whatever he saw is still out there.
