Kouen closed his eyes again. "And after everything, I’m still here with you," Kouen whispered with a tone so sincere, it was almost like a secret meant only for himself. "I have no complaints at all. Truly."
"Really...?" Raikou wore a thin smirk. "I thought you’d be missing your Konoha. Sakura, Kakashi..."
"Unfortunately, no," Kouen answered with a wide grin.
"Not at all?"
"Not at all," Kouen stated without a second of hesitation.
Raikou went quiet for a moment, watching the hot steam dancing over the water's surface before asking again, "You don't regret... letting go of your dream to become Hokage?"
"No," Kouen snapped back quickly. "I can be the Uzukage here. With you. We’ll be the Duo Kage," he answered firmly.
"Duo Kage?" Raikou raised an eyebrow. "Idiot. What the hell is that," Raikou retorted with a small laugh. The laugh was soft, but it sounded so clear in the silence of the bathhouse.
Kouen was stunned. He stilled, staring at his friend’s face, which now looked so free and at ease. Without realizing it, Kouen’s cheeks flushed. "You’ve been laughing more lately, Rai..." he murmured under his breath.

Summary
After the War, Sasuke is struggling: with the past, with Konoha, and with himself. He decides to go on a journey, one he hopes will bring him redemption and maybe some peace of mind.
Naruto isn't willing to let him go so easily, so he does the obvious: invite himself along.
While traveling across the lands, Naruto and Sasuke are forced to confront what lies between them. They make a lot of discoveries about themselves, their past, and their true feelings for each other.
Very slow burn, canonverse, Sasuke POV (he is an unreliable narrator at times, be warned!). Honestly my take on what should have happened at the end of the anime.

Summary
naruto uzumaki is a lonely child, this was always the case when he entered the ninja academy where he met sasuke, a talented and sullen boy who somehow ended up becoming the most important person for naruto.
Both young people strive to remain firm in their goals and in their connection despite the countless difficulties that always try to knock them down over the years, with the certainty that they will always be able to have each other, as friends, rivals, family and perhaps anything else.

Summary
Only thirteen, and already they had known what it meant to be utterly alone - to have no one to talk to, to guide them, to hold them and promise everything would be okay. Just a pair of orphans, failed by the world - by their own village.
But when they met each other, the weight of those injustices felt easier to bear. The thought "He's just like me," a comfort.
So, when Sasuke's cruelly tried to sever that bond, to plunge them both back into that pit of loneliness - Naruto wouldn't have it.
His long, sharp nails sliced into Sasuke's ankle, refusing to let the other boy walk away after their fight. "Then you have to take me with you," he said from where he laid, exhausted on the bedrock.
Absurd."I won't let you leave here without me."
Four years have passed, and Sasuke can still see the small, silvery scars those nails left behind. Naruto sees them too when he lifts the hem of Sasuke's Akatsuki cloak to kiss them.
(Canon divergence: Naruto left with Sasuke after their fight at the Valley of the End. They train under Orochimaru before joining the akatsuki in an attempt to get closer to itachi, in preparation for Sasuke to one day kill his older brother. Both boys aged up to 17.)

Hell, he even fought Gods and a 10-tailed bijuu, and even had a battle with his best friend, even if it cost him his life. He went on countless dangerous missions until now, which didn’t make him back down. And that never made his boots shake.
Because he knew that he could pull through it, he knew that no matter what the circumstances were, he would find a way.
