Summary
Caleb has always been by your side—your partner, your friend, the one person you could always count on. And for the longest time, you told yourself that was enough. That even if he never saw you the way you saw him, even if his heart was never yours to begin with, you could live with it.
But pretending doesn’t feel so easy anymore.
Because you hear things no one else can, and you’ve always known the truth. His heart can never be yours, because it's hers.
And maybe, someday, you’ll find the strength to let him go.

Caleb is like a puzzle piece that matches you perfectly. His joy floods into you like summer rain. But it comes at a cost; a reminder of the ache just under your sternum that comes with both missing him and being around him. Even your heartbeats seem to remind you that you’re lonely; incomplete.
Maybe it's because no matter how many hugs, jokes, cheek pokes or nicknames you two trade, he always stays just out of reach. Maybe it's because you haven't taken the leap. Or maybe, just maybe, Caleb is hiding something from you.
Just like you're hiding something from him.

He leans into your touch. “I can and I will.” He speaks with such conviction. The tone is familiar even if the empty stare accompanying his words is not.
“But you didn’t."Things come to a head on your last day in Skyhaven. This wasn't the Caleb you knew. You weren't the same girl he left behind. You still love him anyway.
