Summary
“Hey,” Mel says, brow slightly furrowed as her eyes scan him over, but lips still turned up in a welcoming smile. “You okay?”
He loves her smile. Wants to spend every day for the rest of his life basking in its warmth.
“Better now,” Frank replies, his feet carrying him of their own volition to the edge of the bed so that he can fall sideways across her blue and yellow quilt.
“Bad shift?”

Or Frank seeks Mel out after a tough day. Because home isn't a place so much as it is who is important to you.

Summary
Frank turned to face her again — and for the first time in their ten years, he looked at Mel as though he didn't know the person standing in front of him.
Her breath caught, lips clamped shut as if she'd already said too much and nothing at all, all of it years too late.
"Why would you tell me this now?" he asked, disbelief sharpening his voice. "Why would you even think I wanted to know that?"
Mel's mouth opened and closed around nothing, her grip on her racquet going slack. "I just... I wanted you to know."
Frank’s expression hardened as he stepped toward the door. “After this game,” he said, not looking back, “we’re done.”

Summary
“You mean…ice play?” Frank asked, all hot and bothered as he swallowed hard.
“I didn’t know there was a name for that,” Mel brought her index finger to her closed mouth, her endearing way of pondering information. Frank kept his eyes on her, followed her smallest of movements. She blushed harder at the undivided attention and at the vulnerability of it all, hiding her face in the sweaty crook of his neck and giggling. Frank was about to lose his fucking mind, and she was giggling. God, he was crazy for this woman. “Um, this is embarrassing. Is that weird? Did I just kill the mood, ruin the moment? Ugh, forget I said any—”
“No, no, no, you didn’t ruin anything, sweetheart, you just made things better, cooler,” Frank assured, his voice roughening with desire, stepping back just enough to look her in the eye again. Once, she told him that she appreciated it whenever he made his jokes more obvious. He doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon, not when it grants him the sweetest, most disarming smile he has ever seen. “If you’re cool with it, I’m cool too. Pun very much intended.”

Summary
And for a little while, she doesn’t think about anything else. Not about the fact that he isn’t hers. Not about how, when this is over, he’ll go back to his kids. Back to his wife.
For now, she lets herself have this moment. Just the two of them, doing what they always do, supporting each other, listening, being there.
Just her and him.
