Summary
The amount of giggling and smiling Armand was giving him that night also left him disoriented, like he had taken a hit of a particularly strong weed and the world went hazy and unfocused. Armand had smiled plenty with Daniel, yes, but it wasn’t that often in one single night, and the playfulness… That happened mostly when Daniel was in for a ride, or in trouble, but it didn’t seem the case then, all it truly looked like was Armand having fun as a normal person at a party with their boyfriend.
God, Daniel wanted him so bad, he wondered how stupid he must have looked.
Armand is in good spirits, Daniel feels horny at the thought of dying by his mouth and they're at a party in a movie theater, which arguably makes everything a thousand times more fun.

Daniel was quintessentially American. It was almost charming, really, that unpolished air about him. Paris couldn’t have made his boy like this, just a bit too much, a little too loud, too brash, too rough, too cocky and overconfident. The inherent youthfulness that seemed to come easily to inhabitants of a country just now reaching its bicentennial and far too wrapped up in its own significance. Americanism was gaudy like plastic pearls and fake gold patinaed with wear and processed foods Armand couldn’t recognize as edible.
They were in Las Vegas now, a pinnacle of American excess, neon signs and windowless casinos full of lights and sounds and drinking and cigarette smoke, gamblers and dealers and bouncers all yelling over one another. Pure, unadulterated American desperation. He’d chased Daniel all the way here, and once he caught him he dragged him up to this penthouse suite. It’d been a week and neither of them had bothered running yet. The architecture here intrigued him, the distinctly space- age consumerist tilt of the Googie style a culmination of a hundred different distinct Americanisms that Armand could spend months pulling apart.

Daniel doesn't know what he expects. A relieved smile? An anxious shrug? A deluge of excuses about why that wouldn't be possible?
