Summary
James really didn't want to go to the royal wedding. Supporting the monarchy really wasn't his style. Except the part of the monarchy that was Sirius, but he hated the crown too so that was alright.
And as it had to be the whole thing was even more of a disaster than anticipated. Cake-gate and all. Now James had to go back to England to play nice with the far less fun prince Regulus, while Sirius stayed back in the US enjoying the merits of being able to needle James' driver Remus into driving him around instead.

"That’s not what this is, by the way." James had said on his way out. “What, what is?" Regulus’ eyes were wide. Not because of anything, they were just naturally wide. Innocent almost. Like a deer. Ironic that, James thought. “I'm not here because Sirius sent me to check up on you. To be truthful, he doesn't actually know that I'm here. So uhm, if you don't mind not telling him” James face scrunched in a half smile half grimace and a lingering dash of shame. this was supposed to be for Sirius, and here he was getting no information and also enjoying Regulus' presence.
"Well, there's no need to worry about that, I don’t exactly want him to know either" He paused, contemplating. “I’m glad this isn’t for him. That would have been rather disappointing." He stopped and hesitated, twirling his fingers rather unrhythmically, before choosing. "Goodnight, Potter." And a ghost of a smile perked up his lips, and he left off to the dungeons

“Shut up!” Regulus throws a pillow at his head, which Sirius promptly throws back. “You heard him yourself, he thinks I’m adorable! He gave me chocolate. Once I start going to Hogwarts, we can be together.”
Sirius cackles. “Oh Merlin, it’s even worse than I thought.”
or; Regulus' incredibly embarrassing childhood crush on James Potter (which his nine year old self was very vocal about) haunts him for years (because Sirius won't shut the fuck up about it).

The sea gives and the sea takes, and sometimes — though rarely — it gives something back.
When James Potter pulls a half-drowned stranger from the tide, he expects trouble.
He does not expect beauty that feels almost unreal, nor the quiet weight of royalty hidden beneath salt and silence.
He certainly does not expect the storm that follows when Sirius sees the boy sleeping in his bed.
