Shane gasped and stumbled backwards. “Three weeks? You decided-” his hands flew to his mouth. “How could you do this without talking to me? This is what? To punish me because I won’t come out on your timeline?”
Ilya felt a stab of anger. “You won’t come out on any timeline!”
Shane blinked at him. “I literally drove here tonight because I wanted to know if you would accept six to twelve months!”
“A timeline,” he barked. “This is our lives, Shane. I want to be with you fully now. I know you are scared, but you need to be brave, and I am so deeply fucking unhappy being your dirty little secret.”
“That’s not fair Ilya, it’s going to be complicated for me. I’m already the only Asian captain in the league! The media, sponsors, the Voyageurs? It’s going to need to be carefully managed-”
Or: After the Boxing Day fight, Ilya loses faith in the idea that Shane will come out quickly and decides to make a wild move and agrees on a trade to Vancouver. Can these two idiots in love find their way back to each other?

Ilya pulled his phone out of his pocket as he made his way to the island in his kitchen and powered it back on. He hadn't bothered doing so after turning it off the night before. He was expecting a text or call from Shane, maybe even multiple. What he wasn't expecting were several missed calls from Yuna and David. He quickly unlocked his phone and listened to the voicemail that Yuna had left him at 4 o'clock in the morning.
"Ilya, sweetheart, I know it's early and you're likely still asleep. I need you to call me as soon as you see this. It's Shane, he got in a wreck. He is in surgery, and David and I are at the hospital right now. We will make sure to let you know of any updates. Please get back to me as soon as you can. We love you."
What? Shane? A wreck?
Or: What if Shane decided to come back to Ottawa after seeing Ilya's secret diary on Instagram and got into a car wreck?
