Summary
Mike sniffled as Will pulled back a little, just enough to look Mike in the eyes. “And even if it seems like he hates you, you know I’ll always love you, right?”
Mike nodded, tightening his grip around Will’s waist. “I know,” He breathed. “I love you too.”
‘But do you know?’ A familiar, raspy voice rang in his head. ‘No one could ever love you for very long Michael’ It reminded him.
Mike grasped Will’s shirt tighter, dropping his face to Will’s shoulder once again. “I love you,” He repeated, trying to focus on the feeling of the words on his tongue, rather than the banging in his head.
‘One wrong move and he’ll see you like I do. You’re too broken and afraid to be worthy of being loved by him.’

Mike and Will have been dating for a month when Vecna comes back. Mike's been having nightmares, and Will is having visions, but at least they're going through it together. (Season 5 rewrite)

Max was right, Mike couldn’t dance. Or maybe he was dancing poorly on purpose, so that every time he missed a step he could bump Will’s hip, or his chest, or let their fingers graze gently over each other; small enough to go unnoticed, but long enough to let Mike’s body buzz.

That I'm in love with you?Will looked up at him, with a different sort of glow in his eyes; a desperate needy glow that made Mike’s stomach fill with butterflies. It was just like when they were kids and Will would kiss him on the check, sending butterflies fluttering straight out of Mike’s throat.
Maybe it was a good idea to come to this party. Mike was starting to see the appeal.

“Nothing's going on.” Mike said, his voice coming out sharper than intended. It wasn’t like he could tell Will he was getting drunk every other day so he could try to drown out the fact that he was a disgusting queer, in love with his best friend. “Sorry.” He looked down at his lap. He could feel his thighs bleeding underneath the blanket. “Im just tense, with the whole apocalypse thing. It’s nothing.”
Will looked over Mike’s face in the contemplating way he always did when he didn’t believe Mike. “That’s not nothing,” he breathed. “I know we’re all dealing with what happened with Vecna…but you’ve been drinking a lot Mike,” his voice was getting shakier as he continued to speak. “Im really worried about you.”

The alcohol definitely calmed him down. Quieted the panic in his head that came with being a queer. But he still knew what he was. He still thought about it. He still wanted to die.

Mike Wheeler has a lot of internalized homophobia. He drinks a lot to try and cope with his self hatred and constant thoughts of suicide, but no matter how much he drinks, he can't escape his love for Will.

“Remind me why you're still not over this guy?” Asked Max, sighing like nothing he had just said had impacted her in the slightest. “He’s just being an asshole. Not communicating, being distant. It’s typical Wheeler shit.”
“But what if his ‘typical Wheeler shit’ has always been a problem and we’ve just been ignoring it?” Will said into his knees. It had never made sense to him why Mike had just suddenly ‘became an asshole’ out of thin air. He figured maybe it was just a puberty thing that made him distant, but after having lived with Mike for almost two years now, he was starting to think it may be something else.

Mike starts to have nightmares about past traumas, and the people he's hurt. He tries to hide his feelings about Will, after El's death, out of fear that he'll end up hurting Will more. But Mike is a terrible liar, and Will knows something's wrong.

"When we were in the bathroom in our dorm." He starts, catching Will's eyes. "You said something about giving you the wrong idea. What did you mean by that?"
Will doesn't reply at first, he just looks down at the sink with wide eyes.
"Will?" Mike urges.
Will opens his mouth, as if to answer. He looks up at Mike.
"You keep touching me and cuddling me. Whenever I do your eyeliner I feel like we're about to make out. But you're straight so I know it won't happen." Will admits.
Or,
Punk!Mike is straight but can't help but to be close to his friend and roommate Goth!Will.

Summary
“Sunscreen,” Will said, pulling the bottle Joyce had given him – it felt like months ago, but it had only been a little over a week.
Mike let Will dot the cream on his cheekbones and the tip of his nose. His eyes were fixed on Will, dark and heavy. Will swallowed nervously, not sure what to make of Mike today. One second, he was bouncing off walls, the next he was strangely still and staring. Will wasn’t entirely opposed: it gave him an excuse to stare back. To admire the sharp lines of Mike’s face, his freckles that had only darkened with sun exposure, the flush of old sunburn on the crests of his cheeks and collarbones.
After the party defeated Vecna, Will was invited to join El and Max in Portland. Mike convinces him that one last best friend road trip is a great idea - even if Mike will have to face the long trip home alone.
Including: very 80s mixtapes for each state, staring longingly, gay repression, queer coming of age and El being a queer ally.
