Summary
After I retold the television show Heated Rivalry from the point of view of Ilya Rozanov, my brain decided I needed to write the exact same thing, but from the point of view of Shane Hollander, so I not only did I need to match the show, but also my own prior work. WHEE!
So that's what this is: a novelization of the television show that is ALSO a companion piece to Bad Thing.
I did read both Heated Rivalry and The Long Game by Rachel Reid, but that was some time ago and my recollection of them is spotty at best. Because they are novels, I did NOT consult the books in order to reduce the chance that I would inadvertently plagiarize them. So where the television series leaves a gap in the narrative, I may fill it with something very different than what happens in the books. We will all end up at the cottage, but some of us are taking a slightly different path to get there.
This novelization means that potentially triggering things that happen in the series (like mental health issues) will happen in this work. NOTE, HOWEVER, no new issues will be added in this work. No one dies. No one is outed. No one is assaulted. This is just the story of the show as if it were from Shane's point of view.

Summary
“Do you ever let yourself feel, Shane Hollander?”
Shane takes in another sharp breath.
“Do you ever let go?”
A deep, heavy silence settles between them.
Then, because he feels as though he has no other choice, Shane pulls his eyes open. Ilya is already looking at him, the deep ocean of his eyes strong and confident and certain. All things, Shane thinks, that he absolutely does not embody right now.
“Session can be over,” Ilya murmurs, fingertips still tracing soft lines on Shane’s thighs.
“Or,” he drawls, eyes flickering to Shane’s cock, pressing desperately against the fabric of his briefs.
“Or?” Shane tries for casual but the word flees his lips breathlessly.
A faint smile touches Ilya’s lips.
“Or,” Ilya echoes. “I can help you feel. I can help you let go. For once.”
or: shane is an excellent hockey player with control issues, ilya is a yoga instructor (amongst other things) with a talent (or, maybe, a very unprofessional approach) to undoing people carefully, and they surrender to each other at a retreat meant for healing.

"Ilya’s face falls, his usual cocky smirk he perpetually wears in bed is nowhere to be seen. “I do not want to hurt you.” The way he says it makes Shane’s chest tighten.
“You won’t.” You can’t, he wants to say. “What about you?” He reaches with the hand he’s allowed to move and once again cups it around Ilya’s bad knee. “Is this position okay for you? I can ride you?” Shane hasn’t been on top yet; preferring to give all the control to Rozanov. But he’s been practicing with his dildo, and if it would be more comfortable for him, why not give it a try?
“I’m fine, Hollander.” He swats Shane’s hand away. “We will fuck like this. Want to see you...” Shane’s breath hitches. “… in case it hurts.” He adds because of course that’s what he meant. Not because he wants to look into Shane’s eyes. Not because this isn’t anything but meaningless, ill-advised sex."
