Summary
Ara Kitar is a nineteen year old thaumic engineering student in the small but prosperous country of Izar. His sister, Ennea, is destined to be the next Nesakala, the conduit between Izar and its guardian spirits. But when the Nesir choose Ara for the job instead, his life is thrown into chaos--not least because the Nesakala has never before been a man. In order to satisfy the ancient customs of Izar, Ara will have to adopt a new public persona, while also confronting some of his own hangups. And possibly deal with a conspiracy out to destroy the Nesir and all of Izar.
