“You better not be a fucking buzzkill. I’m not trying to spend my last month alive moping around. I’ve got a fuck ton of wine bottles I haven’t gotten around to popping open, more money than I know what to do with and a full tank of gas.”
Dazai grins. He collects the wine bottle settled on Chuuya’s coffee table and pours himself a glass before standing beside Chuuya, both of them looking out over the city. Dazai isn’t the biggest fan of wine, not usually. However, as the bitter, rich flavor rolls over his tongue, he thinks it actually tastes lovely.

Chuuya’s body can no longer continue harnessing Arahabaki. Honestly, he thinks he’s handling this whole dying thing pretty well, even if it means Dazai has to be by his side to ensure all of Yokohama doesn’t go down with him.
Chuuya intends to spend his final days living lavishly, inadvertently spoiling Dazai in the process. Meanwhile, a revelation has been slowly creeping up on Dazai.

His friend simply gave him a lopsided smirk, but, oddly enough, didn’t say a single word. Chuuya quietly wished for him to be so quiet every day – although if he was being serious, he wouldn’t want that in the long run, – but he had other, more pressing concerns right now.
“Did you seriously bring me here just to make one of your sick dog jokes?!”
Or: It's Chuuya's 16th birthday, and Dazai insists there's some kind of "surprise", dragging him through the whole town, essentially wasting his time. And why did he bring him to a fucking animal shelter?!

Verlaine pulled Chuuya closer, pressing his face against his chest as he rested his chin atop Chuuya’s red hair. The sudden embrace left the red-haired boy stunned. Verlaine, meanwhile, spoke in that manipulative tone of his. “You’re with me now, Chuuya. You don’t have to cry anymore. Forget everything from the past seven years. You belong only to me now.”
Chuuya’s gaze shot upward instantly. His eyes were red, his lashes, matching the color of his hair, damp. “What…?” he whispered, his voice caught somewhere between anger and fragility.
“Everything will be wonderful from now on, little brother,” Verlaine said, gently wiping away Chuuya’s tears with his thumb. “Perhaps you still need time, I understand. You’re just a little tired and upset. But don’t worry. Your big brother will take care of everything for you.”
Before Chuuya could even process what to say, his eyes widened as a syringe pierced his neck. In the end, his vision slowly darkened, and he lost consciousness.
