The emotion is often accompanied with the color of red. A funny thing considering red is also the image of love.
Though an expert in color theory he is not, Mihawk still thinks it’s amusing.
Because in the end, Mihawk himself has fallen victim to the same emotion. Rage has never been a foreign concept to him. He has lived for a little over 40 years, and blood and gore have always accompanied him. The display of pure violence and horror have been the path he has carved for himself, the emotion being his drive.

The ash buildup on the cigar hangs precariously, clinging to the foot, until suddenly it isn’t. Waves ripple across the surface of the sauvignon blanc when the ashes fall; flakes valiantly clinging together while sinking. When the wine settles, Sanji drags his gaze back to the man.
His grin is wide. Baiting.
“Go on, son. Put some hair on your chest.”
The smug air of victory emanating from the man is suffocating; he doesn’t think Sanji will drink it. Sanji’s vision tunnels, red seeping around the edges.

Summary
If Mihawk had known working with Crocodile would have meant administrative tedium, he would have stayed on Kuraigana Island as it burnt down around him.
That is to say, life with the Cross Guild hasn't been easy. Mihawk's only reprieve in this mad scheme is Shanks, his secret lover of twelve years.

The nightly habits of his Cross Guild-mates were, uh, concerning to say the least.
Buggy took it in stride. Sure, sometimes there would be bloody-murderous screaming coming from Croc's tent, and Hawkeyes had been seen more than once prowling the meeting halls, with that oversized bedazzle-stabber clenched in his fist. They were quirky like that. He could get used to weirdness, pretty fucking quickly.
But sometimes his crew got scared.
