    Summary

For most of his memory, Wolfwood's life has revolved around Vash. The two grew up together, went through hard times together, and knew each other better than anyone else. Wolfwood was more than a little bit in love with him, but his hopes were dashed when Vash cut him out of his life out of nowhere.

Wolfwood did the only thing he could in that situation: he tried to move on. But when Vash returns three years later in need of help, Wolfwood's willing to drop everything for him. As he works to unravel the mystery of what Vash has been up to over the past three years, he finds that things are maybe a little more complicated than he'd first expected.

    Summary

The blankets are stripped, the pillows stacked neatly on one of the chairs by the window, presumably because of the heat. That’s not what catches Meryl’s attention; rather, it’s Vash, or who Meryl assumes to be Vash, writhing on the floor by the bed, tangled up in the thin bedsheet he must’ve been using as a blanket.

And—with white feathers flying everywhere. Vash’s wings have sprouted, from his back, off his arms, all over his face. Fluttering and clapping over his eyes, wrestling towards the ceiling like they’ll free him from the blanket-prison he created by thrashing. Even now, Meryl’s mind begins to whir with action items—get Vash out of there, toss the sheet aside, calm him down—but the rest of her has frozen. The one breath she manages stops in her throat, makes a sort of rattling sound on its way out. Her chest tightens until she can feel every line of her ribcage against her rapidly beating heart.

It’s been a long time since Meryl has seen Vash’s wings. Even after he killed Legato Bluesummers—he—

    Vash’s hand—the prosthetic—hits the ground with a heavy thunk.

    ---

A nightmare brings out Vash's feathers, which Meryl hasn't seen since Dragon's Nest.

    Summary

Wolfwood hasn’t been touched like that in a really long time—particularly not by a man. There’s nothing wrong with it—and he’s not disinterested, at least in the notion itself—but when he breathes in and out again, he finds that his stomach’s starting to churn. His palms are sweating. For a man who’s stared down the barrel of countless weapons, it’s a childish reaction—stupid—but Wolfwood can’t make his voice work. He can’t even look away from the guy’s hazel eyes or turn his head from one side to another, tongue stuttering against the roof of his mouth as he tries to verbalise his denial.

“Y—I, uh,” Wolfwood starts, then lets out a shaky laugh. His fingers curl where his cigarette has been reduced to ash. He wonders if the burn is still there, or if it’s healed up already. “Hah, I didn’t—”

A shadow falls over the table, a gloved hand falling in front of Wolfwood’s train of vision and picking up Vash’s glass of whiskey. It is Vash, Wolfwood realises after blinking; standing at Wolfwood’s right, Vash drains half the cup, his blue eyes piercing—and not directed at Wolfwood.

    ---

Wolfwood is left with mixed feelings after a charged encounter with a stranger.

    Summary

Wolfwood brushes past Livio and out of the shop, beelining for the front. Livio can see the exact moment he loses his breath. His mouth drops slightly and he stills, breath catching in his throat as he takes in the technology in front of him.

“Uh,” Wolfwood says, quite intelligently. Livio snickers. Wolfwood glares. Livio grins and gives him a thumbs up.

“Hi!” Vash chirps, when Wolfwood doesn’t say anything else, seemingly unfazed by Wolfwood’s inability to speak. “Lend a guy a hand?”

or: vash comes wandering into wolfwood's shop looking for repairs. set in a future gunsmoke where canon events happened, minus wolfwood's involvement in the main plotlines
