He knows what people might think when they see it. If they see it at all. A work accident. A slip. A stray piece of metal. Something mundane. He imagines the men his dad used to work with at the docks, thick-armed and sunburned, hands like knots of rope, faces mapped with scars no one asked about anymore. Cuts and gashes earned honestly, out in the open, explained by labor and gravity and bad luck. His is a tiny thing. Tinier than it should be. Tinier than what it cost him. Tinier than what he wants it to be, lately.

Summary
It’s all pretense at this point - Hannibal’s wine glass raised to his lips in a slow, deliberate swallow, the line of his throat moving with unhurried precision. He lowers the glass, thumb dragging idly along the stem, and says, “The longer you wait, the more I’ll suspect you’re afraid to look too closely.”
“I feel like we passed that point a while back,” Will huffs something that could almost pass for a laugh. “Maybe I’m just deciding where to start.”
“Anywhere you like,” Hannibal says, and it sounds like a promise. Or a threat. Possibly both.
