    Summary

What's an ancient god to do when his desires conflict with his duty?

An introspective look at the early parts of Solavellan as Solas realizes he just can't resist her.

The cadence of the music breaks through his introspection, shaky voices lifting in somber tones one by one. It's as if he's witnessing a miracle, seeing her awake and moving on her own, standing awkwardly as the Inquisition sings out their collective relief. It feels easier to breathe, to think clearly. Their eyes meet across the empty space and his resolve falters. If he tells her everything, she will either think him mad or a traitor; it feels too soon to lose her, when he's only now found her again.

“Leadership? Me? We’re only here because of Cullen’s troops and Leliana and Josephine’s connections.” She lowered her voice, aware of the potential audience above them, all the while edging step by step to the adjacent door that led out onto the main grounds. “You know as well as I do that I just happened to be in the wrong place at the right time. No one will miss me for a week or two.”

Solas straightened, his nails pressing into the hands clasped behind his back. “I disagree.”

She scoffed. “Always the sweet-talker, aren’t you?”

Because it took more than a round of singing to change a Dalish Inquisitor’s heart; how one Lavellan learned to embrace her new role as the leader of the Inquisition. This is my own take on the “Protect Clan Lavellan” war table mission, with a healthy serving of pre-relationship Solavellan development and tension.

Several chapters are written from Solas's POV, so spoilers abound. Major cred to Project Elvhen for translations.

    Summary

She heaves a weary sigh. Choices. Solas had always said that all the other options he could see were worse than the Veil. Worse than the death of her world. He had never elaborated much on what those other choices had been, and she had always wondered at the legitimacy of such an assertion. If there had been better choices he might have missed in his rush to correct the course of history, or if the whole thing was just another one of his half-truths. There was so much he never told her.

Just as there is so much she cannot tell this younger version of him now.

Still. She cannot run forever. Sooner or later, she is going to have to deal with him. Give him the truth, or give him an ending. And even if it breaks her, it will not be the first time. She had wavered once before, and it cost her the world. And her eye. She can kill her heart to save this world, if she has to.

She can get back up again.

But it does not mean she has to like it.

    *Sequel to The Wolf Wakes*

    _

    "You look like shit, Chuckles.”

Solas’ lips twitch, just slightly, and in the dim light he raises his head and looks Varric in the eye.

“Is that how you would introduce me, were I a character in one of your books? I’m curious. If you were writing me into being, what words would you choose?”

    __

After losing Athera and giving his orb to Corypheus, Solas has no choice but to join the fledgling Inquisition and try to make things right. But with a nosy dwarf and an even nosier spy master knowing far more of him than they should, this time everything is different. A wolf without a pack is vulnerable, and Solas is in no state to play games.

    Summary

“A horse is not your style,” Ennaly said, keeping her voice casual, trying to ignore this new feeling inside her, as Solas supported her. “A halla, perhaps?”
    “How about a wyvern?”
“No – I know, a wolf!” Ennaly decided.
    “A wolf?” Solas repeated, surprised.
“Yes, that’s more your style. Isn’t that what you’re wearing around your neck, the jawbone?”
A few seconds passed before he replied. “That is true.”
She smiled to herself at his almost reluctant confirmation. “So, we agree. A wolf, then.”

    ***
After initially dismissing him as too proud, Ennaly slowly grows closer towards Solas, and for a moment… he seems interested. But when a spark starts to grow in her, he seems to disregard her again. Wasn't he here to help her understand everything more instead of less? If only Solas was more in tune with her.

(Or, a re-interpretation that extends the canon and fills in the gaps.)
