Here in this place, locked inside his family’s dungeons, they’re both cut from the same cloth: child soldiers on opposite ends of a conflict that’s older than them, and now captives in the same cell. No one’s coming to save Granger, and no one is coming to free him either. At least not tonight, not with his aunt still cussing and raging upstairs.

Summary
Hermione’s eyes had fully adjusted at this point, and she realised that the previously disembodied voice had been slowly moving towards her. Now it was directly before her.
It belonged to a man, taller than the boy she remembered, and yet so much like the boy who had just popped out of the room.
He was dressed sharply in dark, billowing robes, and he might have entirely blended into his surroundings if not for that beacon of hair. She considered him for a space, trying to reconcile the person before her with the image in her head, frozen in time, and realised with a start that he had been assessing her as well.
He crossed his arms slowly, tilting his head to the side.
“Hermione Granger,” he said finally.
Not to be outdone, she squared her shoulders and drew herself up to her full height, fully aware that she still had to look up at the man to meet his eyes.
“Draco Malfoy.”
