Now, here’s the thing. Sophie had actually gone all the way to the back of the library—where most people didn’t bother going—so she could have the quiet she craved so badly. So imagine her surprise when she found someone already sitting there, head slightly bowed, eyes moving quickly through the pages of a very thick book. She had hesitated for a moment before clearing her throat softly and asking, in a whisper, if she might sit there as well.
The man had looked up then. And for a brief second, she had been caught off guard—by the striking green of his eyes, and then by the sweet, slightly lopsided smile that followed, a few careless chestnut locks falling over his forehead as he moved. He nodded, as though it was the most natural thing in the world, and returned to his reading without another word.
And now here they were.
Stuck in the most deserted corner of the library, with a couple very obviously occupied right beside them, apparently under the impression that the shaking stacks were the most ordinary thing in the world.
