Summary
Knives doesn’t let up. “Vash,” he presses, “do you remember the fall? Do you remember the days we spent living in the dunes, surviving off nothing but each other?”
Vash’s prosthetic whirs as the metal of the wheelchair gives a little under his hand. There is a fine sheen of sweat forming on the back of his neck, his face flushed with anger and confusion.
“I- I do,” he says shudderingly, struggling to keep his voice even. “I don’t. I do. Knives, what did you to me?”
“Nothing,” Knives says, and for once, it is true. “I saved you, Vash. I brought you down from your crucifix, I healed you and I bathed you and I clothed you. We’re brothers, Vash. I would never hurt you.”
Vash turns around to face him in disbelief- as if that isn’t the truth. Knives would never hurt Vash like this. He’s shown nothing but endless patience for his little brother, so misguided and blind in his faith and naivety.
(vash is kidnapped by bounty hunters and forces knives to retrieve him, but as he recovers, it becomes increasingly clear that something is wrong with him, and knives has to find out what it is, exactly).
