A year in, and everything was going to plan, until someone stumbled in and refused to leave. Like a guiding star, Ashe Shepard was a woman worth following, and Jeff found himself plotting every course in reference to her. He might bear an Alliance rank, but he’ll always be Shepard’s pilot above all else. Other’s may gladly fly her into hell, but Joker would be the only one to risk everything to bring her home.
Ashe Shepard didn’t ask for her scars, but she would bear them for the rest of her life. It was easy to find oneself adrift among the stars, yet she found herself an anchor in the maelstrom. Ashe might take on the galaxy, but Joker was always there to be her safe harbour amidst the blood and the chaos. When the day comes where she must stand on the precipice, Ashe will do whatever it takes to ensure Joker doesn’t fall with her into oblivion. She doesn’t want to be the Pathfinder’s daughter – hell she doesn’t even want to be on the Pathfinder team. Which is how she ends up on the Nexus as a security analyst, awake a year before the arks arrive, watching everything go to hell.
Now out among the stars, Sara leaves the Nexus. It isn’t until she lands on Kadara that she stops wondering if she’ll ever get to stop running from her past that followed her to Andromeda. Maybe, even for someone like them, there’s a place to belong. A true fresh start, where she can be anyone. If she plays her cards right, she might even be someone.
Sara doesn’t want to shape the galaxy, but in shaping a world among many, she may yet do just that.
Canon-divergent AU in which Sara Ryder isn’t a Pathfinder or in a coma on the Hyperion – just another explorer with a dark past, a penchant for dangerous men, and dangerous jobs. Liberties have been taken, but it is canon-related, maybe even compliant from about a birds eye view.
