Summary
Despite his better instincts, Captain Robert Gadling reluctantly attends one of his employer’s extravagant parties. Beneath the house, in the shadowed stillness of the basement, he stumbles upon a secret. Terrifying, unknowable, and impossible to resist.
Hob’s heart stuttered. The figure was man-sized from head to hips, lean as a dancer, skin the opal pallor of a drowned sailor. Yet, below the waist, humanity surrendered to abyssal myth. Hips tapering into a monstrous tail.
Even cramped within the ostentatious bowl, the creature’s every shift hinted at impossible strength pinned in a cage too small.
Hob found his voice only as a rasp. “My god…”
