Young – maybe in his early-to-mid-twenties – but he exudes a sense of silent power that reminds her of a black hole devouring light. He’s familiar; she’s probably met him a few times before at award ceremonies or photo ops, though she can’t place him.
“I’m sorry,” he says. “Your father is a good man.”
“What are you sorry for?” she says. “He’s not dead.”

On a Wednesday afternoon, Jim Gordon is shot three times in the chest, in broad daylight, on his way to pick his twelve-year-old daughter up from gymnastics practice. Playboy Billionaire Bruce Wayne takes Barbara in, Batman hunts down the assailant, and every major political player in the city tries to figure out what to do in Gordon's absence.
Unfortunately for all of them, Barbara isn't content to sit around waiting on Batman or the police.
