Summary
After all this time, and Wade still thinks there’s hope for the two of them. Wade still can’t see that Peter’s guilt is bigger than anything else in his life.
Peter is going to ruin this. He's going to deform the malleability of something that started years ago when Peter knew nothing but death.
Maybe, simply, Peter is not meant for anything more than that.
Maybe Wade is just wasting his time, and the softness between them was never meant to go anywhere but here, to this moment, where Spider-Man decimates it.
The thought of how much this is going to hurt fills him up to the tips of his ears.

Summary
Peter wasn’t altogether convinced that Wade’s flirting had been anything more than a way to get underneath Spider-Man’s skin.
Wade wasn’t altogether convinced that Spider-Man’s air of disdain wasn’t just a cover up because he was ashamed of returning the feelings.
So, when Peter calls Wade’s bluff at the same time that Wade calls Peter’s, they both end up with their dicks in their hands. (No pun intended)(Okay, actually, it was definitely intended).

Anyways, I live in the area and saw you standing on the ledge, and I thought I could maybe talk you down. Dying hurts, in case you were wondering. It’s not worth it.” Dying...hurts? Talk him down? Bad decision?
Oh.
“Oh.” Everything suddenly connected and the gears started turning in Peter’s brain. “No, wait, I wasn’t…” He didn’t quite know how to explain he wasn’t there to do that without completely explaining why he was up there in the first place. Any resolve he may have had earlier about revealing his superpowered persona had melted away, his plans going awry within seconds. "
Or Peter is madly in love with Wade, and plans to meet him on top of his apartment building to reveal his identity. Wade thinks Peter is standing on the ledge ready to jump, and takes it upon himself to make sure he gets home safe and finds a reason to live again.
