Summary
Pete’s talking pretty now, telling Ray something about dancing and the moon. From the way he’s looking at him, they might as well be the only two people on the road. Forget the other boys, forget the cameras, forget the unblinking soldiers cradling their carbines, Garraty and McVries might as well be the last two slow dancers at the prom.
Or: Five walkers who think Pete will die for Ray, one who thinks Ray will die for Pete.

Summary
When Pete McVries gets one cosmic do-over, a choice to redo the Walk and save Ray, he doesn’t hesitate. The muscle pain, torn-up feet, sleep deprivation, hallucinations, nausea, and finally a bullet — he’ll go through it all again to get five more days with Ray, and to make sure it’s Ray who makes it out alive.
When it turns out that this is not just a one-time do-over but a time loop, he doesn’t quite know what comes next.

She’s both grateful and terrified. When she dropped Ray off at the starting line, she never really thought he’d come back to her. And if he did, it would be as someone she didn’t recognize. A scraped out shell of her son. She didn’t think he’d come home like this, still able to laugh and talk animatedly with his hands and follow her around the kitchen as she made dinner.
