Summary
When Hiccup is faced with the opportunity he had wished for all his life—to kill a dragon—he starts to doubt everything he thought he knew. Dragons aren't evil creatures driven by destruction, rather trying to survive, just like he had been doing. Realizing that no one in Berk would take his word, in a desperate attempt to protect himself and Toothless from death, he decides to leave before the Final Trial, leaving them to believe he had been killed by a Night Fury. Having to survive on their own, both are quickly pulled into the complicated circuit of dragon hunting. As the ultimate prize, Hiccup has to do what it takes to survive, even if it means compromising his old self and becoming a new persona known in every corner—the Black Rider. But even him can't run from his past, as it soon mingles with his enemies’ crusade to destroy him, putting Berk in the center of a war between men and dragons. Unknowing the rider's real identity, Berk desperately tries to save what's left of them, begging for his help and giving everything in return. But will Hiccup finally come back to face what he left behind, and save them from destruction? And are they ready to face what has become of him?
