They capture their first ship successfully, thanks to Ed’s training, but nothing in the world could prepare Stede for what he found among the loot - a decorated coffin and in it, was Ed.
“That’s not Ed, mate,” Oluwande informed.
Stede looks up through his sobs, “Are you sure?”
Meanwhile, Viago is just trying to discreetly shrink as far into the coffin as he could so the ray of sunshine doesn’t touch him.

“Really?” Ed prowls closer, looking Stede up and down slowly. “You sure about that?”
Stede feels a flush spread down to his chest as he backs away, the desk behind him. He loves it when Ed gets that tender look in his eyes, but this predatory gleam is something else. “Quite sure,” he manages. He doesn’t have to work hard to sound and act like a flustered gentleman.
Ed hums, looking Stede in the eyes. “Why’ve you got such pretty hair, then?” He reaches out to tuck a few strands behind his ear, then winds his fingers through Stede’s hair and curls it into a fist.

Ed has a thing for Stede in his nightgown. Stede indulges him, and learns a few things along the way.

Stede startled from where he was rummaging through crates in the storage hold of the Revenge. Izzy Hands was not near as stealthy as Ed, but still enough to catch the often aloof man unawares. Stede whirled around to watch the man swagger through the door. The shhhk of a knife being pulled from its scabbard was deafening even over the creaking of the ship. Izzy was leering rather nastily and seemed to be sizing him up like a drunkard about to start a brawl at some seedy dive.

Summary
Blackbeard is a mystery-- the man behind the legend is a bit more complicated with blood dripping from his hands and state secrets to sell. He's good for nothing, a criminal who pretends he doesn't like fine things, and he's the leader of one of the world's most illustrious crime rings. To make it all worse, he's absolutely bored with all the money and power he holds, only going on raids that actually make him feel something.
When his crew recovers a human trafficking victim on a raid on cargo ship-- another path starts to open up to Blackbeard-- a path he never thought a man like him would get the chance to have. He doesn't deserve it, but there's something about this annoyingly optimistic if not aloof man that irritates and encourages him to maybe try to have the life he actually wants, a life with Stede Bonnet forever in it.
But Stede Bonnet had a life before he was taken and Ed is resolved to get him back to it, if only to make sure Stede is happy. Maybe he's utterly missing the point that Stede has started to make it perfectly clear that he'll only have a happy life if Ed is in it.
